Biography

N.B. I am removing "25 Jun 1811, Botetourt County, Virginia," as the date and place of marriage for this Jacob Leyman, c1782-c1871, and Susanna Baker, 1770-1847, as that is the marriage information for Jacob Layman, c1782-1869, and Sarah Catherine (Baker) Layman (1792-1868). The two Jacobs are, I believe, entirely different men and Susanna and Sarah are two entirely different women. (Patricia Prickett Hickin, 7 June 2019).

Jacob Leyman was born about 1782, possibly in Botetourt County, Virginia, of unknown parents.
At an unknown date, he married Susanna Baker.
She is said to have borne him eight children:
  1. John Layman, born 1796
  2. Jacob Layman, born 1793.
  3. Susan Layman, born 1798.
  4. Daniel Layman, born 1814
  5. Barbara Layman
  6. Elizabeth Layman, born 1795
  7. Mary Layman, born 1814
  8. Christian Layman, born 1816.

The dates, however, do not all work, and the names are different from those listed in his will (see below).

He died of unknown causes in 1871 in Salem, Perry Township, Columbiana County, Ohio].

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:

I am removing Jacob Layman on Find A Grave: Memorial #84110319 as a source for Leyman-62 as that Findagrave entry is for a different person, namely Jacob Layman, who died in Greene County, Ohio. To see the other Jacob's Wikitree entry, click here. I think the marriage date given here may also be for the Jacob Layman who died in Greene County.
