Biography

Sarah, the daughter of William and Nancy Davis Layton, was born on January 20, 1833 at Clinton County, Indiana. She and John Parvis were married there on August 26, 1858.[1] They had eight children together:

  2. Margaret E. Parvis b 1861[4]
  3. Nancy Elizabeth Parvis b 1862[4]
  4. Estella Parvis b 1866[4]
  5. Elgie Parvis b 1868[4]
  6. Balford Parvis b 1870[4]
  7. Jay C. Parvis b 1874[5]
  8. Emma Winifred Parvis b 1877[5]

Death

Sarah died in Clinton, Michigan on March 18, 1916 of a cerebral hemorrage.[6]

Frankfort Crescent News March 18, 1916:
Mrs. Sarah A. Parvis , 83 years old, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.W. Hendrickson, one mile south-west of Avery. Death came at 9:40 o'clock, following a prolonged illness with paralysis. Mrs. Parvis suffered a stroke of paralysis on October 3, last year and has been forced to remain in bed since. About a week ago, her condition became dangerous.
The deceased had been a life-long resident of Clinton county, having been born in Michigan township on January 28, 1833. In 1856, she was married to John Parvis, who died in 1902 at Port Orange, Florida. He was brought to Frankfort for burial.
In 1883, the family moved to Frankfort, where Mrs. Parvis resided until one year ago, when she went to live with her daughter near Avery. Five children survive. They are: Mrs. J.B. Meneeley, of Frankfort, Mrs. J.R. Holmes, of Ithaca, Michigan, Mrs. James Walter, of Frankfort, Balford and Jay Parvis, of Michigantown.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First Christian Church in this city, of which Mrs. Parvis was a faithful member. Interment will be at Green Lawn.
