Mary Ann Layton was born in Swan Creek, New South Wales on 26 February 1850 and baptised at Clarence River on 19 May 1850. She was the daughter of William Layton & Mary Ann Goring.[1]
She was the daughter of William Layton (known as Kangaroo Layton), of Rosewood, Grafton. Surviving her were Mrs. J. Connolly, Mrs. Abel Pyers, Mrs. A. Brown, and Henry, Robert, Ernest, John, William, and Edward.[2]
