Biography

Descendant
Descendant of Mary (Chilton) Winslow who was a passenger on the Mayflower.

According to the Sturtevant memorial pillar Sarah was born in 1733. However, it appears that the pillar was erected long after she passed and therefore its dates are questionable. She was probably born 17 Mar 1739/40 in Kingston, Plymouth, Mass (that's 1740 in the new calendar). That would make her the fourth of five children born to David Leach and Elizabeth (Cooke) Leach. She married Church Sturtevant and had eight known children with him. She lived most of her life in Center Harbor, New Hampshire which lies on the beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee.

Research Notes

Sarah's birth info varies. The date in Massachusetts Births and Christenings, 1639-1915 may be confusing 1739 is the old style of dates while 1740 is the current way. Based on the way info is presented on the memorial pillar, the pillar was erected years after the deaths of Church and Sarah so the data might be inaccurate.
Memorial Pillar Inscription: Sarah Leach Sturtevant died 1813 Ae 80. Her husband's inscription is above hers and other family members are on other faces of the pillar.

Sarah is a Mayflower family? If more help is needed with information on her, or if you'd simply like to, she can be added to the Mayflower Project.. :) They are a fabulous group with oodles of information about these families.

Actually, since she was added 2 years ago and remains unsourced, I will contact the project and have her added.. Everyone remains the manager. Char~
