News Article – Nov, 1943 DAILY NEWS-RECORD, FLORA, ILLINOIS – Clay County's Home Daily Boys in Service -V- LT. JAMES P. LEACH RELEASED FROM SERVICE SCOTT FIELD, ILL. Oct 23 – First Lieut. James P. Leach, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Leach, Xenia, Ill, who spent 13 months in the European-African-Middle East Theater as pilot operations officer on C-47 and C-46 transport planes, has been honorably released from active duty with the Army Air Forces at the Separation Base of Scott Field parent radio school of the AAF Training Command. Retaining his commission and rank, he is still subject to recall at any time during the present emergency. Lieut. Leach entered the Army Air Forces in October 1940, and formerly was stationed at Santa Maria, Calif., Moffett Field, Calif., and Warrensburg, Mo. He went overseas in November, 1942 and completed 825 combat hours before his return to this country in December, 1943. While overseas he participated in the Egypt-Libya, Tunisia, Sicily and Naples-Foggia campaigns. Lieut. Leach wears the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the European-African-Middle East Theatre Ribbon with four battle stars. He has one brother, Capt. W. E. Leach in the service. His wife resides at 1208 E. Elm, Breckenridge, Tex.
