According to her obituary, Alice Leone Leach was born at Livermore, Maine, on 29 May 1877, the daughter of Calvin R. Leach and Abbie (Goding) Leach of Livermore.[1] She was living with her parents at Livermore and working as a teacher in 1900, with her birth date shown as May 1877.[2] See the Research Note below for a discussion of her birth date.
An undated obituary from "the Lewiston paper" transcribed on the FindAGrave memorial of Alice (Leach) Coolidge says that she died at Livermore, Falls, Maine, and her gravestone at the Waters Hill Cemetery is inscribed with the dates 1877-1944.[1]
Research Note
The 1906 Goding genealogy gives the birth date of Alice Leone Goding as 29 May 1876,[4] which conflicts with her birth date from her obituary and from the 1900 Census (both cited above) and from the 1880 Census, which says she was 3 years old in June 1880.[5] The genealogy says that Alice's mother, Abbie (Goding) Leach, was the source of "all of the information relating to this branch," and she presumably knew when her daughter had been born, but given the other evidence it is likely that that the author of the genealogy reported erred in reporting the date and that Alice was born on 29 May 1877.
