Biography

Madelaine Leboeuf was born about 1780 in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, daughter of Jean Francois Leboeuf (1750–>1811) and Marie Reine Matherne (~1760–~1796).

She married Jean Charles Naquin in 1800. [1]

By 1810 they were living in Lafourche Interior Parish, part of the United States Territory of Orleans, a few years before statehood. This area was comprised of mainly French-speaking Acadians, French, Spanish, Germans, and others who over time all became known as Cajuns. Madeleine was listed as being 26 years old with her husband and four children. On the census, she is listed as living at dwelling 571 among many family members.[2]

Per the 1850 census, Madelaine was listed as being 60 years old, living among extended family in dwelling 184.[3]
