Mahala was born in 1835. She is the daughter of Lewis Ledford and Frances Pool. She passed away in 1921.

She married Richard Thomas Hord in 1863. They had 2 children together: Richard Anderson Hord and George Clifton Hord. She also helped raise her step children from Richards precious marriage.
