Just one more point of clarification for the Jesse Lee Sr who first married Elizabeth Blackman (no record), then married Susannah Langston (date, so a record must exist, somewhere):
For they many children that he had with the two wives, the best line of demarcation is the death date of 1811 for the first wife. That should help to match up the children that belong to him. Once again, I am not sure that the children on this profile don't belong to a different Jesse Lee (Sr).
Bizzell's The History of Sampson County, North Carolina is excerpted on the sources tab in FamilySearch for Jesse Lee Sr (ca. 1767-1831). It indicates the marriage to Elizabeth Blackman, but only two children by her:
Joab
probably Josiah (b. 1789)
A second marriage was to Susannah Langston, with these children:
Jesse, b 1805-md Phereby Bundy;
Joel, b 1808;
James W;
John;
Jonathan;
Pharoah;
Elizabeth, md Samuel Ingram;
Sarah, md William Jernigan;
Susanna, married Dr. Samuel Smith;
Elizabeth II, md Joseph Blackman;
Nancy, md Willie [Wylie] Johnson, Josiah, who died before 1831,
Phereba, m. William
Rose (?) - will check the reference, as I have the hard copy on loan for a while - let me know if you want anything else checked in the book.
Thus, I am not sure that this profile is talking about only one Jesse Lee (Sr) with the differences in the attached children and the list from Bizzell. It is possible that some conflation has happened.
Has anyone actually reviewed the estate record to see what's in it?
What might be best is to decide if all of the children present are truly siblings of one another, and then that likely means the Mary Elizabeth Blackman might be the wrong spouse.
Let me know if you need further assistance in sorting this out.
Clearly, if he was not born until 1800, he was not a head of household in 1790 or 1810. The Find a Grave reference is a totally different person with a different family. The probate file is for a man who died in 1831 and was born about 1767.
Lee-3229 and Lee-2457 appear to represent the same person because: same birth, no sources to indicate whether these are the same person or not, please add your sources. Thanks for helping to improve WikiTree
