Agnes Leech was born 1730 in Armagh, in what would later become Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland was created in 1921, when Ireland was partitioned between Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland by the Government of Ireland Act 1920. She came to Rockbridge Co., VA, in 1768 with her husband, Thomas Lackey. Agnes Leech and Thomas Lackey arrived on the same ship in the Port of Philadelphia, when she was eighteen years old. Her parents and three children died during the voyage and her brother John also survived. Thomas and Agnes had land in Eden Township in Pennsylvania, before moving to Virginia. They married in 1752 and had seven children: Thomas II, Nathan, James, Martha, Mary, Elizabeth and Margaret. She died in 1814 and was buried beside her husband at High Bridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
