Note N12961Sources: Ancestral File; Genealogical and Biographical Record of NewLondon County, Conn., by Beers; National Society, Daughers of Colonial Wars, Lineage Book V. (973, D2dcw); IGI; A. Witter Family History.
Witter Family: Elizabeth ?Lide of Malford, Worchestershire. Had 11 children.
AF: Elizabeth Lyde, born about 1605, Malford, Worcestershire. [The AF record cites several source books, one of which I can't find.]
Two other AF records list different birth places and/or christening places. (All filed in Brown file.)
Beers' Genealogical and Biographical Record of New London County, Conn.,
cites the Lyde spelling. Origin of English Surnames gives only that spelling,
so I'll use that also. However, other sources say Nicholas' mother was a Lide, so Nick's wife could have been from the same family. Other spellings include Lide, Leids and Leid.

The Legacy Disputes under the FamilySearch page are interesting with regard to parentage. I've found some sources if anyone is still interested. I am trying to prove or disprove if they had a son Abraham who married a Mary Potter and also had a son William Browne. I think someone messed up a lot of families and I've had bad info...as does the rest of the internet....Thanks, Becky

as it is shown right now - she married her sisterd kid, her nephew then I guess

I see this as well, and there are no sources to support this, so I am disconnecting Elizabeth from these parents.

Are there any quality sources for her parentage?

There is a problem with this profile. Mother would have been almost 60 years old when Elizabeth was born --- BUT mother was already dead.

Leids-1 and Leids-27 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse, given marriage in 1624, 1615 seems too late for estimated DOB.

Leids-1 and Leids-8 appear to represent the same person because: mother's name is Gibbs per sources given...merge proposed

Leids-25 and Leids-1 appear to represent the same person because: birth, death, places, spouse, parents are the same

I only track one child - John - in my tree, and don't have any sources documenting children, etc. Do any of the other managers have info that can help?
posted by Terry Kraft
Variations in spelling of names was not that uncommon in the early days and a number of the children are duplicates due to past merges. They have been proposed as merges themselves.

Is the mothers LNAB Gibbs or Grubbs? Please see G2G post Correct name?
Her mother woulg have been 55 at her birth, not impossible but not very probable.
