Biography

Joan was the daughter of Sir William Leigh of Isel, Cumberland and his wife Agnes Skelton.

Some before 23 June 1410 Sir William bought the marriage of the minor Henry Fenwick (b. 1401) and married him to his daughter Joan. This was a child marriage, but they eventually had six daughters:

  • Margaret (m. John Denton)
  • Elizabeth (m. Christopher Moresby)
  • Mary (m. Sir John Hudleston
  • Eleanor (m. Sir Thomas Lamplugh)
  • Joan (m. John Skelton)
  • Anne (m. John Radcliffe)

Joan probably predeceased her husband (who died in 1459) since there is no mention of dower lands in subsequent documents.
