When Joseph Leigh was born about 1838, in Stockport, Cheshire, his father, Thomas, was 42 and his mother, Mary, was 45. His partner was Elizabeth Downing (they never Married). They had six children in 20 years. He died in 1913 having lived a long life of 75 years.
