Obituary

Donald E. Leighton, age 73, of Durham, died in his home Tuesday October 22, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with Asbestosis, with his loving family by his side.

He was born September 22, 1940 in Portland Maine, the son of Mark and Corinnabelle (Hicks) Leighton. His childhood years were spent in Harpswell and Durham. He married his wife of 41 years, Beverly (Ridley) Leighton in Brunswick on January 9, 1972.

He was employed by B.I.W. for 24 years. Previously, he had owned and operated a service station in Lisbon Falls. He shared his passion for the outdoors with his boys and many friends. He greatly enjoyed his family, and exploring the back roads of Maine, which he always referred to as "taking a loop." When he returned he always had gifts for his many grandchildren that he had found at flea markets and yard sales.

He is predeceased by two sisters, Merlyn Beggs and Jeanette Johnson.
