Gerald Cliffton Leighton Jr., son of Gerald Cliffton Leighton Sr. and Anna Szych, was born 28 July 1934, in Danforth, Maine. His parents were separated when Gerald was young, and he grew up in the Szych household, with aunts, uncles and grandparents. As an adult he in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, as an adult.
His military career began with active duty in the U.S. Navy, enlisting on Jan 17, 1951, and being released on May 25, 1954[1]. He then continued over 20 years with the U.S. Army Reserve 76th Div. in East Windsor as a Sargeant First Class.
He worked for Conn. Light and Power before his retirement in 1992.
An avid sportsman, he belonged to many sporting clubs, was a life member of I.A.F.C. in Rockville, and a Past Master of the Wolcott Lodge.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997 at home after a long illness according to his obituary but Government documents (Social Security Death Index, et al) report his death on Nov 12, 1997. He was buried in the Union Center Cemetery, Union, Connecticut.
