Robert was born about 1799. He is the son of Joseph Leighton and Betsey Jordan. He married Elizabeth Leighton Willey, daughter of William Willey and Elizabeth "Liza" Davis, at Cherryfield 26 Oct 1821; no children but raised one child, Lemuel Guptill (b at Edmunds 18 Mar 1821), son of Nathaniel Guptill and his 4th wife Susan McCullen.
