St. James Lemoine, son of Jean Baptiste Lemoine and Marie Eloise Ducote, was born at Avoyelles, Louisiana, United States on 28 February 1814 and baptized later that year at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. "Geme" was probably just "James" somewhat lost in translation. [1]
He married Magnette Chatelaine on 11 February 1832; after her untimely death he married Azelia Roy on 28 May 1836; both in Avoyelles Parish.
He was living with his wife and two young sons in Avoyelles in 1840. [3] He may have served in the Louisiana Volunteer Militia in the Mexican–American War in 1846-1848 [4]
He lived in Avoyelles Parish in 1850:
