Biography

Samuel Leonard was born about 1553 in Chevening, Kent, and he settled in West Wickham, Kent, England. Samuel's parents were John Leonard and his wife Elizabeth Harmon.

He married, in 1570 at London, Middlesex, England, Elizabeth Slany, daughter of Sir Stephen Slaney, Lord Mayor of London. They had a large family, 4 sons and 8 daughters .

He was a Member of Parliament for Fowey in 1593. He became a Justice of the Peace for Kent in 1601, and was knighted in 1603. He was a puritan.

He died at his mother-in-law’s house in London 1 Apr. 1618 and was buried in West Wickham, Kent, England.

I believe he was Jewish. My Latin is not particularly good but an image here - edited to add, that is probably complete rubbish from me! I'll ask someone whose latin is far better what some of it says.

Samuelis died in about 1618. Their will passed probate on 3 February 1618.<ref> Will: "England & Wales, Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, 1384-1858"
