One possible reason for the Leppingwell/ Leffingwell difference could be the way the p and f were written in the 16th and 17th centuries. There is an outstanding text for use in genealogical research when deciphering written records (and more): Herber, Mark. Ancestral Trails: The Complete Guide to British Genealogy and Family History (2nd ed.). Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 2006 (pp 32-24 for handwriting).

Leppingwell-2 and Leffingwell-59 appear to represent the same person because: [1]The name Leppingwell is given for Gershom Flagg's wife Hannah In Family Records of the Descendants of Gershom Flagg. Pages 21and 132

[2] In "Genealogical Notes On The Founding Of New England" by Ernest Flagg, MCMXXVI, Leffingwell is given as Hannah's name.

As Genealogical Notes is several years later than [1] and Norman Gershom and Lucius C.S. Flagg were both in contact with Ernest Flagg[2] we can presume that Leffingwell is correct.

Leffingwell-120 and Leffingwell-59 appear to represent the same person because: one has a sourced death ; other one doesn't
