Biography

The 1930 census[1] says he was a lodger in the household of Hollis Mattox. Other lodgers are his brothers, Herman and Tom. There is a grandson, James R. Leslie. who is apparently the son of Oleta (Maddox) Leslie. Who the husband of Oleta might be is not evident. Very likely it is one of the Leslie brothers in the household. But, which one?

From Smith, 2004 it appears to be James R.. But he does not appear in the household.

The 1940 census[2] says he was single, living with his father, working as "operator public T? laying".

The WWII enlistment may pertain to him. But, this seems unlikely.
