Biography

Maud was born in 1868, her birth being registered in the 1st quarter of 1869^[1]. She was the daughter of Reverend Edward Lester and Hannah Hardey.

She was christened on 3 March 1869 at St Paul's Church, Walton Parish, Lancaster, England by her father^[2]. Their abode was recorded as Victoria Villa, Bootle.

England and Wales Census, 1871: Living with her father Edward (39), mother Hannah (27) and her siblings Mary (6), Paul (4) and Percy (3 months) at 295 Derby Road, Bootle, Lancashire, England. She was aged about 2. Also in the household was a Nurse and a general servant.

Sadly her brother Paul died in October 1871 at the age of 5.

Maud lived with her parents and siblings at St Pauls Vicarage, 62 St Johns Road, Kirkdale, Lancashire, England, where her father was the Vicar. In 1901 she was aged 32 and single.

Her father died in 1905.

England and Wales Census, 1911: Recorded as the head of the household at 21 Cavendish Road, Blundellsands, Great Crosby, Lancashire, England, aged 42 and single. Also in the household were her unmarried brothers George Frederick Lester (36 and a fruit merchant) and Reginald Hamilton Lester (28 and a clerk).

Her mother died in 1920.

In the 1939 England and Wales Register she was recorded at 21 Leopold Road, Crosby, Lancashire, unmarried.

Maud passed away in 1948 at the age of 79, unmarried^[3]. Her death was registered by her sister, Ermina Hannah Minns of 53 Leopold Road, Waterloo, Crosby.

Her will was proved on 10 January 1949 at Liverpool to Martins Bank Ltd. Effects: £1617 17s. 3d.
