Marie Charlotte was born on 14 Sep 1746 in Boucherville, Quebec, Canada to Sieur Pierre Jacques Levasseur dit Carmel and Jeanne Baron dit Lupien.

Joseph was paramount in the fur trade with the Chippewa Indians along with many of his family members. He was a founding partner in The Sandy Lake Trading Company: [1]

  • In 1788, THE SANDY LAKE COMPANY (a 2 year partnership) was formed between: Joseph RÉAUME, Alex Réaume (son of Joseph’s Uncle Jean Baptiste), John Sayer, Jean Baptiste Cadotte, Jr., Gabriel Attina dit Laviolette and Jean Baptiste Perrault. Together the 6 men built a post on the St Louis River (Fort St Louis or Fond du Lac, now Superior, WI).
  • During the winter of 1789-90 Joseph Réaume was on Upper Red Lake, as part of a trade expedition with John Sayer.
  • During the winter of 1790-91 - Joseph Réaume was trapping at Wild River Lake (west of Leech Lake); Perrault & Attina were trapping at Leech Lake; Sayer was trading at Fond du Lac; and Alex Réaume was with Cadotte trapping at Pine River.

Marie Charlotte died on 7 Sep 1781 at Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit (Wayne, Michigan, USA) just days before her 35th birthday.
