excerpts from Dr. John J. Dickey's diary:

Timothy Lewis

Cutshin, Kentucky, January 17, 1898. I was born where I now live, February 2l, 1816. My fathers name was Thaddeus Lewis. My mother's Polly Roark before her marriage. My father was born in North Carolina, Ash County. He came to the Poor Fork of Cumberland and raised a crop and then came here. He then went back to North Carolina and brought my grandfather James Lewis to this Creek. My brother Joe who was 5 years older than myself was a baby when my father came to Kentucky. This would make the coming of the Lewises about 1811. My grandfather, James, was first married to Miss Griffin who bore him three children, James, Gideon and Elvira (Shepherd). James married Sallie Couch, reared a family and died during the war.
