George was the son of William Lewis and Elizabeth Burns.
George and his wife Elizabeth were the parents of five children: Hiram Allen, Florence May, Fannie Beatrice, Albert M., and George Walter.
George was a well to do farmer. They lived in Mason, Illinois for a number of years, but by 1877 had moved to Richardson, Nebraska, where they spent the remainder of their lives.
He was a Baptist; a registered Democrat; and a member of the local lodge of Woodmen of the World.
George is buried in Prairie Union Cemetery in Shubert, Nebraska.
DNA
Three descendants of George W. Lewis and Elizabeth E. Mowder have matched their DNA and are part of a triangulated group. One person descends from their daughter Fannie, one from daughter Florence, and one from son George. Until a match can be made further up the line, it's not known whether the DNA comes from George Lewis or Elizabeth Mowder.
A great-grandson of Florence Lewis shares chromosome segments with George Athey (they're 2nd cousins 1x removed) as follows:
Chr 1 - 11.7cM from 199-207
Chr 4 - 32.0 cM from 175-191
Chr 9 - 11.3 cM from 101-110
Chr 9 - 14.9 cM from 118-132
Chr 12 - 13.6 cM from 100-112
Chr 17 - 17.3 cM from 33-50
Chr 19 - 14.8 cM from 8-17

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
