Charles Augustus Lewis was born on March 8, 1785, in Augusta County, Virginia. He was the son of John Lewis and Margaret Elizabeth (Peggy) Frogge.[1][2]
At the age of 22, Charles married Judith Turner on November 19, 1807, in Bath County, Virginia, when she was about 21.[3] They had six children - Mary Ann, Timothy P., Margaret Letitia, Catherine Elizabeth, Isabella Spiller, and Louise (Laura).[1]
Charles and Judith moved from Warm Springs, Virginia, in 1817 and settled on "the point" near St. Louis, Missouri. He was the first owner of the land where Ferguson Station was later built. The station was named for his daughter Louise's husband, William Ferguson, who gave 10 acres for the station.[4]
Charles died in St. Charles County, Missouri, on May 22, 1824, at the age of 39.[5] He was buried at Fleming Cemetery in Highland County, Virginia.[6] After his death, his wife and children, except for Mary, moved back to Virginia.[4]
Charles died intestate, and in late June 1824, his wife Judith was made executor of his estate.[7]
