Mary Mollart was born in 1845 in Bucknall. She was the daughter of John Mollart and Sarah (Mollart) Mollart, although since they didn't marry till 1850 and he was only 20 then, it's not clear whether he was Mary's biological father or not. However she put his name on her marriage record as her father.
Sometime between about 1846 and 1851, Mary's family moved from Bucknall to Hanley, no great distance. They lived in Chell Street in Hanley, probably in one of the houses owned by Mary's father's father.
By March 30th 1851, Mary's family were living in Chell Street in Hanley. Mary was 6 years old and in school. Her father was working as a potter. Mary had two younger siblings - Maria (aged 5) and Thomas (0). They also had a lodger, Moses Mollart, who was married but his wife wasn't in the household. He was Mary's uncle, her mother's younger brother.
By April 7th 1861, the family were still in Chell Street (now described as part of Northwood); the father was still a potter. Mary at 16 had no paid employment so she may have been helping with the housework, and Maria at 14 was still in school. There was no sign of Thomas, and there were three children born since 1851 - Elizabeth, John and William, all born in Hanley.
Mary married Henry Lewis on December 28th 1863 at Holy Trinity Church, in Northwood, Staffordshire. Henry was 26, Mary 20. His address was Rose Street, and hers Chell Street. The fathers' names were recorded as John Mollart and John Benjamin Lewis.
By April 2nd 1871, Henry and Mary were living in Hanley. They had three children, all girls - Sarah (6), Mary (4) and Jane (1). Henry was working as a printer (probably in a pottery factory).
By April 3rd 1881, they were living in Albert Street, Stoke on Trent. Their children were Sarah (aged 16), Mary (14), Jane (11), Alice (7), Minnie (5), Ann (3) and Lucy (0). Henry was working as a potter's printer.
In 1883, Mary's father John died, and by the terms of his grandfather's will, the houses in Chell Street would have been sold and the money divided among John's children. However since Mary, whether or not she was John's biological daughter, was born before his marriage, by the laws of the time she wouldn't have been his legal daughter and probably didn't get a share of the money.
By April 5th 1891, they were in Moston Street in Northwood parish. Their children were Mary (24), Jane (21), Alice (17), Anne (12), Lucy (10), Ellen (8) and Arthur (6). Henry was working as a potter's printer.
By March 31st 1901, they were in Harrop Street in Hanley/Northwood. Their children still in the household were Lucy (20), Ellen (18), and Arthur (16). Henry had been promoted, and was now a foreman over potter's printers.
By April 2nd 1911, only Ann (who was still unmarried) and Arthur were still with their parents, and they were still in Hanley. Henry, at 73, was still working as a potter's printer for an earthenware manufacturer.
Mary probably died in 1931 in Stoke on Trent (this is the only exact age-match for her in Stoke on Trent death registrations).
