Richard Lewis passed away on April 2, 1908 in Belfast, Ireland.[3]
Belfast News Letter 03 April 1908 Mr Richard Lewis The death of Mr. Richard Lewis, late of Ty-Isa, Strandtown, removes one who for many years took a prominent part in shipbuilding and engineering matters in this country, The sad event occurred yesterday at his son's residence, Sandy croft, Bloomfield, deceased having reached the advanced age of 76 years. He was born at Hawarden, in North Wales, and after serving his apprenticeship to the engineering business in Liverpool, removed to Cork, from thence to Dublin, and ultimately made his home in Belfast, where he was one of the partners in the well-known firm of Messrs. MacIlwaine & Lewis. Deceased retired from active business life some years ago, after a busy and useful career. He was predeceased by his wife, but is survived by two sons-Mr. Albert J. Lewis , a prominent local solicitor, and Mr. Joseph Lewis, an engineer, who is resident surveyor for the German Lloyd, Berlin, a Board of Trade Commissioner, and Assessor to the Court of Admiralty. In politics deceased was a strong Conservative, and as a member of the Church of Ireland was connected with St. Mark's Church, Dundela.
