Biography

George Lewis was born after 1560, because his oldest brother Edward[1] was born in 1560.[2]

George was the second son of Thomas Lewis of The Van and his first wife, Margaret, the daughter of Robert Gamage of Coity,[3] and widow of Miles Mathew of Llandaff, Glam.[1] The hamlet of Y Fan (Welsh) was in Bedwas parish, Caerphilly hundred, Glamorgan, Wales.[4]

George had two brothers and four sisters,[1] including:

  1. Edward Lewis, oldest brother,[1] Sir Edward was born 1560, died 1628;[2]

George married three times:[3]

  1. Katherine, the daughter of Miles Mathew of Castell y mynach, and they had three sons;
  2. Mary, the daughter of Francis Zouche, and they had one daughter:
  3. Mary, the daughter of William Gore of Wiltshire, and they had three sons and four daughters.

George Lewis of Llystalybont, near Cardiff, Glamorgan, was burgess of Parliament for the Cardiff Boroughs in 1586 and was Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1610-11.[3]

When George's father died in 1594, he inherited considerable property, which he increased by his marriages, achieving an estate estimated in 1645 to be £400 per annum.[3]

Lewis-7003 and Lewis-560 do not represent the same person because: Little chance they will be conflated. Born more than a century apart.

Regarding proposed merge, there is a 20-year discrepancy on dob and 52 years on dod. How will these be reconciled?

There is no documented evidence of Edmund Lewis born to George Lewis and Catherine Matthew. This claim has lead to considerable misunderstanding as to the origin of Edmond Lewes if Lynn, Massachusetts, by way of Ipswich, Suffolk, England.
