Biography

Served as a private in Company F of Gray's 28th Louisiana Infantry, enlisthing on 05 May 1862 at Vernon, LA for a term of 3 years or the duration of the war. He was captured and parolled from prison at the end of the war.

Autosomal DNA testing (triangulated group match) indicates that Oliver M. Lewis was related to James Lewis of Alabama and to Jasper Lewis of Alabama and Arkansas. The 1880 census for Oliver indicates his father was born in North Carolina, which is where the line of James Lewis also claims as their homeland.

Records indicate Oliver was likely older than indicated by his tombstone, the 1880 census indicating a birth in 1830/31, 1900 census giving Sept 1830, and his military enlistment indicating 1827/8. In 1880 he was living in Garland in Miller County, Arkansas. By 1900 he is living in Rusk County, Texas with his son Jesse. So while he is buried in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, where he homesteads in 1893, he may well have died in Texas.

DNA Confirmation
Maternal relationship is confirmed with Frank Bartholomew GEDmatch A194204 by Bob Lewis GEDmatch M095748, and Nadine Lewis GEDmatch M067257 sharing a 28.2 cM segment on chromosome 3 from 184,743,453 - 196,286,127.

That's so nice, Cindy, I hope you have a great visit!

Unfortunately, Y-DNA only proves the father's line. Mother's line is X-DNA. Thus, the triangulation or Mtdna if it's available.

My Dad is suppose to be here for a visit in the next week or two. I will do the Y test then.

Lisa, my husband is not a direct descendant of Oliver. Common ancestors are upline 2 generations. I've added the triangulated evidence to the profile according to WikiTree requirements. They are, by the way not from Ancestry, but from GEDmatch.
Because ancestry does not triangulate and you can't prove he was his "son" that way. We need advanced Y DNA testing on this line, talk with Cindy, she is aware. I don't like linking what isn't proven as it spreads potentially false information, DAR has me very meticulous..if they won't accept it I won't use it.

I'm not quite sure why parents, James Lewis and Nancy Thrailkill were unlinked from Oliver's profile, but I'm getting Gedmatch DNA matches on my husband's chromosome 3 (same segment) with Bob Lewis, Nadine Lewis, Cindy Weir, Becky Johnson, and Robert Parnell.

My husband also gets a direct match on Ancestry with Cindy Weir with common ancestors Jonathan A. Thrailkill and Mary Ann Adams, who are parents of Nancy Wesley Thrailkill and Whitfield Clifford Thrailkill (my husband's line of descent).

Lewis-17533 and Lewis-17420 appear to represent the same person because: Hey Cuz!

I had Oliver on the tree already as I was posting documentation for him. Two things wikitree is a global tree so each person only appears once, so don't create duplicates of people already on the tree or you're stuck spending all your time doing merges. Second add sources and documentation as you add each person per wikitree policy. You can look at Oliver's once you merge him and see some examples of sourceing done on his page. WELCOME ABOARD - so glad you got signed up! Hugs, Cuzzin Lisa
