Biography

Lewis Lewis, son of Lewis Lewis and Mary Powell, was born on 20 March 1710 in Chester County, Pennsylvania Colony.[1] [2]

He was mentioned as a witness in Reece Howell’s will in 1734. [3] Also, he was mentioned as a witness in the 1738 will of Abraham Free of Newton. [4]

Lewis Lewis and Rose Pratt declared their intention to marry on 21 April 1740 at the Wrightstown Monthly Meeting, Pennsylvania. [5] [6]

Lewis Lewis and Rose Pratt had the following children:

  1. Evan Lewis;
  2. Lewis Lewis, Jr.
The evidence that Lewis had two sons, Evan Lewis and Lewis Lewis, Jr., is found in Lewis Lewis’ sister Mary (Lewis) Roberts of Radnor's will of 1784. She gave to her nephew Evan, son of Lewis Lewis, £30 and to her nephew Lewis Lewis, son of Lewis Lewis, £30. [7]

Lewis was mentioned in his father-in-law Joseph Pratt’s will in 1756 as he was the one of his trustees. [8]

It seems that Lewis Lewis died sometime between 1756 and 1784.

Lewis Lewis was born on 20 March 1710, as the First Month referred to in the Original Quaker birth record was actually March, not January. The Calender year began in March until England and her Colonies introduced the reformed Gregorian Calender in 1753.
