Birth

02 MAR 1637/38 in Scituate, Masschusetts[1], son of George Lewis and Mary Doggett John was baptized at Scituate on 11 MAR 1637/38[2].

Although Deane[3] says George married Sarah Jenkins, sister of Edward Jenkins, Wakefield[4] finds no justification for that statement. George did have a wife Mary who probably was the mother of three of his children[5].

Death

John was "killed by the Indians at Pawtucket on 26 March 1676, ummarried."[7]

Probate

His inventory was taken on 2 May 1676 and recorded at Plymouth. Edward Lewis and Samuel Bryant made oath to the truth of the inventory on 27 June 1676. Shuball (?) aged 32 years testified that John Lewis son of George Lewis before he went out to war said that he wanted Samuel Byrant to have his estate. Hannah and Mary Davis daughters of John Davis aged about 21 years testified that they heard him say that he would give to Samuel Bryant of Barnstable all his estate which he had, but he said that Samuel Bryant should help to maintain his mother along with the rest of his brothers.[8]
