In 1871 he is living at home at Kings Cross Inn, St Mary, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales.
In 1881 he is living at home in Broadway, Roath, Glamorganshire, Wales. He is working as a Clerk.
Marriage with Alice Maud Mary Davies 14 May 1885 in St John, Canton, Glamorganshire, Wales.
In 1891 he is living with wife, 3 children, a brother in law, and three servants at Crwys Road, Roath, Glamorganshire, Wales (this is probably the Crwys Inn). He is working as Licensed Victualler.
In 1893 his wife dies.
Dies 6 Jan 1898 aged 35. And is buried in Mamhilad the 8 Jan 1898.

In the 1901 census their daughter Beatrice is found living with Jacob Emmanuel Lewis.
In the 1911 census William R is found living with Percy and his family in Pembroke.
