Biography

Jane was born about 1816. She was the daughter of John Lewis.

Jane (full age, no age given), daughter of John Lewis, married Edward Edwards on 26 January 1839 in Llanegryn, Merionethshire, Wales.^[1]

In the 1841 census Jane (age 25) and Edward (age 25) were in Llanegryn, Merionethshire, Wales with their 2 year old daughter Elinor.^[2]

In the 1851 census Jane (age 39) and Edward Edwards (age 38) were in Merionethshire, Wales with their daughters Elinor, Mary, Jane and Cathrine.^[3]

She and Edward immigrated to America before 1854 and lived in New York State. Their sons John Edwards (b 1854) and William Edwards (b 1856) were born in New York. Edward Edwards died before 1860. By 1860 Jane joined her brother Rowland Lewis in Blue Earth County, Minnesota.

In the 1860 census Jane (age 49) was in South Bend, Blue Earth, Minnesota supporting her sons as a washerwoman.^[4]

In the 1870 census Jane (age 63) and her son William (age 13) were in South Bend, Blue Earth, Minnesota. She could not read or write in English.^[5]

In the 1880 census Jane (age 70), Keeping House, was the widowed head of household in Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota, United States.^[6]

She passed away in 1891.
