Biography

Hannah was born in 1744. She passed away in 1839.^[1]

336. Hanna Lewis 6 (Fear Thacher 5, Col. John 4, Hon. Col. John 3, Anthony 2, Rev. Peter 1), born Barnstable, October 16th, 1744; died Harpersfield, Delaware Co., N.Y., September 15th, 1839; married Fairfield, Conn., August 1st, 1763, to Peter Penfield, Jr., born Fairfield, September 15th, 1743; baptized Fairfield, September 18th, 1743, renewed covenant at Firfield, September 4th, 1763, in company with his wife. He lived for a while in Fairfield and removed anf settled at Harpersfield, N.Y., where he died January 12th, 1812. He was a Captain in the Revolutionary War. He was a son of Peter Penfield who came from England and settled in Fairfield, Conn., by his wife Mary Allen, whom he married in Fairfield, May 28th, 1730.

Children: 9 (Penfield), 6 sons and 3 daughters.

923 i. Abigail 7, born March 4th, 1764; baptized March 18th, 1764, at Fairfield; died April 15th, 1850; married Salmon W. Beardsley, by whom she had 13 children.

924 ii. Lewis 7, born November 26th, 1765; baptized February 9th, 1766, at Fairfield; died October 21st, 1856; married Ada Beardsley, by whom he had 7 children.

925 iii. Sarah 7, born September 2nd, 1767; died January 17th, 1860; married Enos Hoyt, by whom she had 2 sons.

926 iv. Peter 7, born March 27th, 1770; baptized October 7th, 1781, at Fairfield; died February 6th, 1852; married Caty Hawley, by whom he had 12 children.

927 v. Ebenezer 7, born February 26th, 1773; died January 25th, 1869; married December 1st, 1795, at New Fairfield, Conn., to Sarah Smith, by whom he had 11 children.

928 vi. Nancy 7, born _____; died _____, in childhood.

929 vii. David 7, born August 12th, 1779; died December 20th, 1843; married Voa Dicia Scovil, by whom he had 11 children.

930 viii. Joseph 7, born July 22nd, 1781; baptized Fairfield, Conn., October 7th, 1781; died August 20thy, 1869; married Priscilla Barnum, by whom he had 11 children.

931 ix. Benjamin 7, born January 19th, 1787; died August 16th, 1805; not married.

The Penfield Mss. (sic) genealogy, which was loaned to me by Miss Frances J. Eggleston of Oswego, N.Y., and which was in all particulars a most carefully compiled volume, is erroneous in stating that Peter Penfield, Jr., who married Hannah Lewis (6), was born September 25th, 1743; as he was baptized September 18th, 1743, I have placed his birth September 15th instead of 25th. The same authority states that his son Joseph Penfield (7) (no. 930) was born in 1785; but as he was baptized October 7th, 1781, I have changed the year of his birth to 1781.
