Jonathan Lewis and his family are listed in the records of Queen Anne's Parish in Prince George's County, Maryland. [1]
His wife's name is shown as Mary. We do not know what her maiden name was.[1]. Marshall believes the marriage took place before 1690, however if Jonathan was born 1680, that is too early, and the births of the children begin in 1706. A more reasonable marriage date would be 1705, when Jonathan would have been aged 25, with the children's births beginning the next year. The children shown in this list are Thomas, Jonathan, John, Daniel, Jonathan, David and Mary, shown in bold in the list below.
Mary married first Jonathan Lewis. Mike Marshall reports Jonathan Lewis was born about 1680 in Calvert County, Province of Maryland. [2]
Marshall identifies Jonathan's wife as Mary, married to Jonathan before 1706 in Queen Anne Parish, Prince George's County, Maryland. Marshall does not identify her family; he estimates her birth as before 1690, in Prince George's County, Maryland.
Since Jonathan’s first child was b. 1706, assume his marriage to Mary 1705. If he was 21 at the time, he was born not later than 1684, and Mary, if 18 in 1705, was b. 1687. Other suggested dates of birth are 1680. Make him 25 at marriage and he was b. 1680.
They lived in Prince George's County, Maryland. On Mar 27, 1716, the Maryland General Assembly held court, and "the Rolling Road from Jonathan Lewis' Plantation to Marlborough Town was ordered laid out."[3]
This would be in the area served by St. Barnabas Church, Queen Anne Parish, Prince George's County, where the children were baptized.
In the 1719 Tax List of Prince George's Co. Jonathan Lewis is shown residing in Collington Hundred. as well as a Joseph Belt. [3] (In Calendar of MD State Papers No.1: The Black Books, p.23.) RL
Jonathan Lewis had died by 7 July 1722 when his name appears in PG County Testamentary Proceedings, Liber 26, Fol 19 (Abstract)[3]
Jonathan's own estate took several years to settle, and was not final until about three years after his widow Mary had apparently remarried and become Mary Beckett. [3] There obviously would have been a strong motivation for Mary to remarry, since Jonathan had left her with a family ranging in age from 18 to 2.

Jonathan's wife Mary gives birth to sons Jonathan II and Jeremiah Lewis (b.1722) in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Slightly different dates are attributed to the records of St. Barnabas Church in Queen Anne Parish, [5] This list also given in Michael Cook, [6] and in [7] Where there is variation, the Queen Anne Parish dates are given first with the alternates following:
By March 1623 Jonathan's widow Mary had remarried. She bound their two youngest sons, twins Jonathan and David Lewis ( b. 1718), into the care of William Mordaunt, until age 21; They were about five years old at the time. In court, Mary gave her name as Mary Beckett.[3]
After Jonathan, Sr., died, his young widow had married a man by the name of Humphrey Beckett and their twin sons, Humphrey and Benjamin were listed in the parish register as born 18 Dec 1722.)[3]
Laura Lewis suggests that recent correspondence with Gary Beckett suggests that Mary's subsequent husband might have been Humphrey Beckett II, who lived in Prince Geoge's County during the same time period, and married a woman named "Mary." Mary Lewis Beckett gave birth to twin sons (Humphrey III and Benjamin, born 1722 in St. Barnabas Parish, PG Co. [3]
However, if Jeremiah, last son of Jonathan and Mary, was born 1722 and these twins, the first children of Mary and Beckett, were born 1722, there appears to be some factual dissonance!
Mary had children with both of her husbands. Some children who are listed in parish records are certain while others may be questionable. Slightly different dates are attributed to the records of St. Barnabas Church in Queen Anne Parish, [5] This list also given in Michael Cook, [8] and in [7]Where there is variation, the Queen Anne Parish dates are given first with the alternates following.

Children of Mary and her husband Jonathan Lewis
Children of Mary and her husband Humphrey Beckett
When Mary remarried, she gave her two youngest sons, Jonathan Jr, and David, into the care of William Mordant, who named them in his will. [3]Note – if David and Jonathan were the youngest sons, then there is even less evidence for a Jeremiah b. ca 1722.
