John Lewis, born 30 November 1713, is thought by many to be the John Lewis who married Winifred Thomas, dau of Daniel Thomas of Lower Piscataway Hundred, PG Co.[1]
However, there is a strong dissenting opinion led by Phyllis Cox of Oxen Hill, MD, a descendant of John and Winifred through their son Thomas, and Linda Walden. According to Linda , in a posting to me on this Forum in 2000, Phyllis, who grew up at Harmony Hall, believes that this John Lewis is the son of Richard Lewis of Charles and Fairfax Cos, (the son of Thomas Lewis of PG Co. who died in 1696), while Linda feels that he was the John Lewis, (son of John Lewis of PGCo., son of Thomas Lewis d 1696) who moved to Stafford Co. VA ca 1722. Linda feels that he then moved back to MD and married Winifred Thomas. In my recent posting on the family of Thomas Lewis d. 1696, I have tried to give the records that seem to make this unlikely.[1]
Will of Daniel Thomas: [2]

In the Will of Ann Thomas of Prince George Co. (Liber 1, pp. 382-383.) She states "I give and bequeath to my loving daughter Winefred Lewis a Negro woman called Susannah to her and her heirs forever and the same Winefreds husband John Lewis not to have the liberty to sell or dispose of the said Negro wench from his wife and children." She further states that she appoints her son-in-law John Lewis to be her sole executor. [2]
