Biography

3 March 1717 John (of James) Lewis married Tacy Crandall [1]

Research Notes

Birth date estimated based on marriage date.

The John Lewis born in Westerly in 1698 is the son of John, not the son of James. No birth record has been found yet for John the son of James.

Obviously John Lewis son of James cannot be married to all of these women.

As John (of James) is shown marrying Tacy Crandall in Westerly, RI in 1717, it's safe to assume the other John Lewises marrying in Westerly around this time were *not* the son of James.

Other John Lewises marrying in this time period include:

1718 John, Jun., and Mary Burdick
1720 John, and Anna Clarke
1738-9 John, and Thankful Lewis
1739 John, and Margaret Burdick
1741 John, (Fuller,) and Ann Lankford

John Lewis's will made in 1769 identified his surviving spouse as Marcy, probably the same person as the Mercy _____ who bore him a son in 1721 and 9 more children after that in Westerly according to Jas Arnold's Vital Records 1636-1850. So this John Lewis didn't marry any Margaret in 1739. I have detached Margaret as John's wife.

Lewis-51115 and Lewis-1401 appear to represent the same person because: clear duplicate
This profile appears to be a duplicate of Lewis-1401.. It is unreasonable to suppose that James Lewis had two sons named John or that this John Lewis was born on the identical day as John Lewis the son of John Lewis Sr. Since there are no primary sources for this profile, please merge into Lewis-1401.

Lewis-6701 and Lewis-1401 are not ready to be merged because: There is no documentation to support this merge. "John Lewis" is far too common a name. Much work to do to document these profiles.
