Lieutenant Samuel Lewis served with 3rd New York Regiment, Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Samuel Lewis was born in 1752. Samuel Lewis passed away in 1822. [1]

They had a farm on the Hudson River at Nothumberland, Saratoga, NY They are both buried on their farm with three of their children in the "Nevin Cemetery" Known as the Thompson Cemetery They had eleven children. He was a Capt in the Rev. War some records show him born 1748. After the War he bought his farm , a part of which is now owned by his grandson Samuel Thompson a house on the farm was burned by the British Army he was under General Gassevoort at the siage of Fort Stanwix His son Professor Tayler Lewis died before him. and he lest three other sons, the late General Samuel Lewis of Gansevoort, NY . Rev John Navin Lewis of Lodi, WI. and Morgan Lewis still living at Gansevoort, NY. In the War of 1812 the Old Captian Lewis sent his teams with loads of soldiers to Whitehall at his own expense, and not having learned the art of heavy bills on the government. A hired man walked out of the field one day to join the companies passing for Plattsburg. The Capt. took down the old Rev. War musket, gave it to him saying "Take it, but don't dishonor it " your time goes on sir, in my employ while you are gone
