Biography

James William was born on 15 October 1855 in Giles County, Tennessee. He was the son of John Hamilton Lewis and Martha A. Inman. James William died at the age of 49 on 13 December 1904 in Beaty, Benton County, Arkansas. James William was buried after 13 December 1904. On a Farm near Beaty.[1]

In the 1860 census James (age 4) was in Carter, Carter, Missouri.[2]

30 Oct 1873: Eighteen year old William Lewis and Mary Rebecca Lyles (19) were married in Baxter County, Arkansas.[3][4]

1900 Census: James W and Mary R (46) Lewis were living in the Mt Home Township of Baxter County, Arkansas. The record notes that James was 45, born in Tennessee during October of 1854, and that he had been married to Mary for 27 years. Also listed in the home were their unmarried children Geo Calvin (23), Jenny Ann (10), Emily F (6), a married son and his wife, and James' widowed mother-in-law Elizabeth Lyles (65).[5]
