William was born in Virginia between 1741 and 1750 (probably closer to 1750) based on his age brackets in the 1830 Federal Census of Northampton County, North Carolina.[1] William was the son of Henry Lightfoot and Name unknown who was Henry's first wife.
William Lightfoot appears in the 1786 North Carolina State Census in Northampton County in Horn District.[2]
William purchased land in Brunswick County, Virginia from John Bennitt. The deed reads in part as follows: "Deed dated 27th day of September 1779 between John Bennitt of the county of Brunswick on the one part and William Lightfoot of Northamton county in the state of North Carolina of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and forty pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said William Lightfoot . . . hath bargained and sold unto the said William Lightfoot . . . one certain part or parcel of land lying and being in the said county of Brunswick in the state of Virginia containing one hundred and three acres and bounded as followeth . . . [signed] John Bennitt, Elizabeth Bennitt signed sealed and delivered in presence of Benjamin Bennitt, Richard Bennitt William Bennitt"[3]
William Lightfoot was living in Northampton County, North Carolina from 1790 to his death in 1833. William appears in the 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1830 Federal Census in Northampton County, North Carolina.[4]
William Lightfoot made his last will and testament on the 2nd of December, 1833. William names in his will his daughter Elizabeth Smith, son James Lightfoot and grand daughters: Matilda Smith, Rebecca Smith and Catherine Lightfoot daughter of James Lightfoot.[5]
William Lightfoot died in Northampton County, North Carolina in 1834.
