Biography

John Lilly V

Origin

John was born c. 1696 at Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia.[1] He was a son of John Lilly and an unknown mother.[1] His father died young, as he was gone by 1710. In that year, John IV asked the court to allow him to choose of Richard Kendall as his guardian.[1]

Some believe that Dorothy Billups may have been the mother of John Lilly, but we have no record of her name.[1]

Jane Chisman, born 21 March 1694/5, daughter of Thomas was definitely NOT the mother of John Lilly IV.[2] Her father's will, which was presented 18 July 1715, names his daughter as "Jane Chisman."[2] Daughters were always referred to as their married names in wills, therefore she could not have been married. See Thomas Chisman to read his will. In addition, she would have been much too young to be the mother of sons born around 1696 and 1700.

June Byrne contends that John Lilly IV may have had a brother, Edmund Lilly b c. 1700, and that this is more likely than not.

Robert Billups had a daughter, Mary Billups. She married John Lilly. John Lilly died about 1796. About 1801 Zadoc Litchfield married Mary Lilly and they had Larkin and Lois Litchfield. About 1806 Zadoc Litchfield died. Larkin Litchfield Married Margaret Todd. ...from some records from Glouster Co. called the Billups,Lilly papers from 1700-1800 when Richard Billups kept most records[citation needed]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

There is no evidence that John Lilly born 1669 had a son, John, born 1690 who died at age seven. I suggest we merge this profile into one of the other John Lilly profiles, possibly Lilly-17, (who was the son of John Lilly born 1669). If there is primary evidence of this person's existence, please add it to the profile.
