Biography

Elizabeth _______ . The erroneous surname Lincoln is based on the fact that her husband Richard Tootill was witness to the will of Elizabeth Lyncoln in 1556 and that he soon married her. This is pure coincidence. Elizabeth Lyncoln died shortly about 1556. [1] The surname Southcott has also been proposed with no supporting evidence.

Richard Tootill of Woodford, was born say 1530. His will was made 1589 and proved 11 Mar 1590 at Peterborough and named seven children and his wife Elizabeth who was executrix along with their son Anthony. Their 7 children were: Symon, Anthony, Elizabeth, Ellen, Mary, Frances, and Thomas.[2][3]

Richard and Elizabeth were married about 1558. [4]

Based on her husband's birth, 1530, the estimated birth of Symon, 1560, Elizabeth may have been born 1535-1540 ish.

Elizabeth's Last Name at Birth should be changed to Unknown. The surname Lincoln is pure speculation and unsourced. Objections?

I was just going through this family and I agree, there is nothing that ties her to the Lincoln family.

Thanks Robin, Hearing no objections, I changed the surname to Unknown, added ppp, and have asked the England Project to add her.

Anne - thanks for submitting a profile management request to the England Project. We would be happy to take her on to keep the PPP. Should "aka Lyncoln" also be removed?

Yes it should, I meant to before, but will take care of it now. Thank you for adding her to England.

Lyncoln-2 and Lincoln-1052 appear to represent the same person because: seem to be same persons. Notes on Lincoln-1052 give birth 1537

There are two Elizabeth Lincoln's attached to Robert and his wife. The other Elizabeth was born in Hingham, where her parents and all her siblings were also born. I doubt if she is attached to the correct parents.

***NOTE: PER Donnelly-2171***: User-contributed websites can provide good clues, but it is preferable to cite the actual sources that these websites reference (where they provide such sources - often they do not).

For example, the Bullock website you mention, states "Richard Tuttle ... a witness in 1556 to the will of Elizabeth Lyncoln, whom some say, he soon after married".

Unfortunately the website doesn't say where it got this information about the 1556 will, but it is almost certainly this probate entry in Phillimore's Calendar of Wills ... Proved in the Court of the Archdeacon of Northampton 1510 to 1652 on page 60 column 1. Since the will was probated in 1556/7, the testator must have been deceased by this time, so could not be Elizabeth the wife of Richard Tuttle who had children after this date.

Southcutt-1 and Lincoln-1052 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse, nearly same vital info, appears no basis for surname Southcutt. Double check if sources can be added.
