Biography

Betsy was the daughter of Samuel and Phillis (Austin) Lincoln, born 8 April 1764 in Windham, Connecticut.[1]

Her mother died when Betsy was eleven years old. About ten years later, Betsy, along with her father and the rest of her family, moved to Chelsea, Vermont.

On 5 December 1794, Betsy married Nathan Hood in Chelsea. [2]They were the parents of seven children: Elihu, James, Betsy, Phebe, Samuel, Achsah, and Parna.[3] The family were members of the Congregational Church in Chelsea, where her father served as church deacon for many years. According to the church records, Nathan and Betsy became full members of the church in 1831.[4]

Nathan was a farmer. He was listed in the 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830 and 1850 U.S. Federal Censuses for Chelsea. [5][6][7][8][9]

Elizabeth died 6 January 1841 in Chelsea at the age of 76. [10]Her remains were buried at the Lincoln Cemetery in Chelsea. [11]Nathan died 6 September 1850 at the age of 85. [12]His remains were laid to rest next to those of his wife.[13]
