Nancy Linder was born on November 07, 1831 in Cherokee Nation (East). Her parents were Hiram Linder and Barbara Harlan. The 1835 Cherokee census shows a family of 5 living on Ochoa Creek (now Tennessee). [1] Their property consisting of two houses, several farm buildings, and orchards was valued at $916.00. [2] The Linder family was Removed to Indian Territory over the Trail of Tears in the Brown detachment. [3]

Nancy married four times but had no children; all of her husbands died within a few years of the marriage. Her first husband was William Elders, married in 1849. The 1851 Drennan Roll lists Nancy and her brother John living in the Illinois District. [4] She married John Leonard in 1854, William Green in 1859, and Daniel Hicks in 1876. [5] Daniel died in 1883. In 1896 Nancy was living alone in the Tahlequah District. [6]

Nancy was enrolled by the Dawes Commission as a Cherokee by Blood in 1902 [7] and was approved for a share of the Eastern Cherokee (Guion Miller) payment. [8] In 1910 Nancy was living in Muskogee, Oklahoma, with her sister Cinderella. [9]

Nancy died on September 03, 1915 in Manard, Cherokee, Oklahoma, United States and is buried at the Linder Cemetery, Hulburt, OK. [10]
