Biography

In 1850, Robert Lindley, a farmer, 22, and his wife Cynthia, 19, lived in Monroe township, Morgan, Indiana. They were both born in North Carolina. Living on a nearby farm were Robert’s parents and his four younger siblings.[1]

In 1860, the Lindley family lived on their farm in Martinsville, Monroe Township, Monroe County, Indiana. The family included Robert Lindley, 31, born in North Carolina, a farmer, with $400 in real estate and $50 in personal estate; his wife, Cynthia P., 29, born in North Carolina; their children, born in Indiana, Arthur p, 3; and Arra, J., 1.[2]

Robert Lindley was born in 1828 in Chatham, North Carolina, the son of Edward Lindley (1797-1865) and Joanna (Cravens) Kirk (1797 NC-1869 Morgan, IN). His father, Edward, was the son of Aaron Lindley and Phoebe McPherson. Robert died, aged 40, in 1868 in Monrovia, Morgan, Indiana. He is buried at Free Methodist Cemetery, Monrovia, Indiana.[3]
