Biography

In 1860, the Lindley family lived on their farm in Paoli Township, Orange, Indiana. The family included Head of Household, WILLIAM Lindley, 31, born in Indiana, who had $1400 in real estate and $500 in personal estate; his parents, both born in North Carolina, Aaron Lindley, 58, with $1400 in real estate and $800 in personal estate; and Ann Lindley, 53; and their children, all born in Indiana, Samira, 18; Ruth, 16; Elwood, 13; and Hiram, 11. The youngest three children were in school. Living nearby were three other Lindley families:

  • John Lindley, 30; wife Nancy, 21; and three children
  • David Lindley, 43; wife Amy, 38; two children
  • David Lindley, 79; wife Grace, 83, plus three other individuals [1]
