Biography

William F. Lindley, unnamed at birth, was born on 19 August 1881 in Kings County, New York, the son of William Lindley and Elvaretta Stillwell.[1]

In 1892, the Lindley family lived in New Utrecht, New York. The family included William Lindley, 48, born in England, a farmer, and a US citizen; his wife, Elvaretta, 38, U.S. born; their children, all U.S. born, George R., 24, a clerk; Hannah, 21; Emma B., 17; Clara May, 15; William F., 11; Howard M., 9; and Allen L., 3; also, John Lindley (William’s father), 76, born in England, a farmer, and US citizen; and Jane Lindley, 55, born in England (unknown relation).[2]

In 1900, the Lindley family lived on a farm in borough of Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. They owned their farm without a mortgage. The family included William Lindley, 58, born in January 1842 in England (parents b. England), who immigrated in 1846, was a naturalized citizen, a farmer; his wife, Elvaretta, 47, born in Oct. 1853 in New York (parents b. NY); their children, all born in New York, George R., 33, b. Dec. 1867, a groceryman; Hannah J., 30, b. Aug. 1870; Emma B., 25, b. March 1875; Clara M., 23, b. April 1877, a bookkeeper; William F., 19, b. Aug. 1881, a clerk; Harry E., 16, b. May 1884, in school; Howard M., 14, b. April 1886, in school; Allen L., 11, b. Feb. 1889, in school; Albert N., 8, b. Nov. 1892, in school; Clarence E., 5, b. March 1895. Living nearby was (William’s brother*) Reuben Lindley, 51, b. England, his wife, Harriet, 43, and two sons. NOTE: William and Reuben’s wives, Elvaretta and Harriet (Stillwell) were sisters*[3][4]

In 1905, the Lindley family lived in Kings County, New York. All members of the household were born in England, except as noted. The household included William Lindley, 56, born in England; his wife, Elvaretta, 46; their children, Emma, 30; Clara, 28; William, 23; Harry, 21; Howard, 19; Allen, 16; Albert, 11; and Clarence, 10.[5]

William F. Lindley died on 23 July 1908 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, and was buried on 26 July in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. William was 26, single, and a resident of Kings County, NY. William was born about 1882 in New York, the son of William Lindley and Elvaretta Stillwell (both b. NY). [6]

William Fletcher Lindley, 1881-1908 (26), is buried with his parents and five siblings at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York.[7]
