Biography

Marjory (Lindsay) Douglas is a member of Clan Lindsay.

Marjorie /Lindsay was the daughter of David Lindsay, 1st Earl of Crawford and Elizbeth Stewart.

The Scots Peerage erroneously gives Marjory, married to Sir William Douglas of Lochleven. as a daughter of David Lindsay 1st earl of Crawford. in Vol.iii p.17

Then SP Vol;vi p.365 states Sir William apparently married Elizabeth Lindsay, as appears from, with other evidence, a dispensation by Henry, Bishop of St. Andrews, for the marriage of William Douglas of St. Andrews diocese, and Elizabeth Lindsay of Brechin diocese, they being in the third and fourth degrees of consanguinity

and thirdly at Vol.viii p.485 states of David Wemyss of that Ilk - died at an early age, before September 1430. He married, between 1 and 4 February 1423-24, a lady named Christian Douglas, who is described as the widow of the late Sir William Douglas. Sir William Fraser suggests her first husband was a son of the Laird of Lochleven, but he had a dispensation to marry an Elizabeth Lindsay. (See title Morton.) He may, however, have married twice. Christian Douglas survived David Wemyss, and married, thirdly, before 1443, Sir James Auchinleck of Auchinleck. She was still alive in 1465,

The latter is correct but unfortunately the Scots Peerage & Sir William Fraser failed to determine that this was Christian Lindsay who continued to use her first husband's surname throughout. She was the daughter of Alexander Lindsay not his father. Was she ashamed of her notorious father?

To conclude: Marjory did not exist, and Elizabeth and Christian Lindsay may have been the same person or Christian was the substitute in marriage for a deceased sister as the the third and fourth degrees of consanguinity hold in the relationship of Christian's first marriage.

Where is the source for this woman? Bishop Wardlaw of St Andrews gave a dispensation for William Douglas to marry Elizabeth Lindsay but there is no evidence that that took place, His wife was called Christian.
