Private Christopher Liner served with Augusta County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Christopher marriage certificate comes from Franklin county, Georgia, it lists Old Henry Lyner as his father, Margaret Clemons as his mother and Mary Jane Smith as his first wife.

Research Note

Note: Christopher Liner served in the Revolutionary War. On December 10, 1981, one of his descendents, Bettie Sowell Morck (since deceased), wrote the following in her Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) application.

The said Christopher Lyner (Liner) who resided during the American Revolution at (near Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia) assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of Private, Pensioner, Augusta Co Capt. P. Buchannon, Militia, VA.

My Ancestor's services during the Revolutionary War were as follows: Christopher Lyner entered the service of the United States at Augusta County, Virginia in December of 1780 when he wass 17 year old. He was an apprentice learning the Hatter's Trade when he as drafted into the Militia of Virginia. He served 3 months and was discharged.

"He entered service a second time for 3 months in 1781, as a drafted man, and was in the rifle service in the regiment commanded by Col. Vance and Capt. Patrick Buchannon, Lt. not recollected. They marched from Rockfish Gap by Albemarle Courthouse, Richmond, Williamsburg, to Yorktown where Cornwallis was then besieged. The corps to which declarant belonged was engaged as soon as they arrived in binding toether many pieces of brush wood which were used in making breast works, by being laid along and covered with earth. After this Declarant and others of the rifle corps were employed in watching the bank of the river above Yorktown, and annoying all that made their appearence within reach of the rifles. After the surrender (which he witnessed) Delcarant and his corps were marched toward Winchester, but before they arrived at that place, he fell sick and was permitted to go home" (from the Christopher Liner file W3699, National Archives and Records).
