Note

Note: Larry Wayne "Chief" Linker, 63, of Mount Pleasant, died peacefully in his sleep on April 9, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. After several years of faithfully fighting a terminal illness, he is now safely in the arms of our Lord. Graveside rites will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant. Born July 17, 1942, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late James Sloan and Esther Cline Linker. Mr. Linker proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a dedicated employee of Carolina Foods for 31 years as a maintenance supervisor and plant engineer until his retirement in 2004. Mr. Linker enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, building go-cart motors and cooking. He loved to gather his family and friends together for his famous chicken and dumplings. He was most at home enjoying nature and spending time with his grandchildren and friends. Many would say he never met a stranger. Larry will be remembered for being selfless, strong, funny and most of all generous with his time and his love. All who knew him were better for it. He was greatly admired and loved by everyone in his life. Mr. Linker was preceded in death by his parents; sister Virginia "Gink" Gardner; and three brothers James J.D., Henry Don and Fred Linker. He is survived by his devoted partner in life and love, Juanita, of the home; four daughters, Julie Linker of Mount Pleasant, Cathy Mullis (Kevin) of Indian Trail, Monica Blackwelder (Rob) of Charlotte and Vicky Bost (Randy) of Shallotte; one son Billy Falkner (Phyllis) of Kannapolis; one brother, Boyce Linker of Mount Pleasant; two sisters, Mary "Doll" Rinehardt and Billie Honeycutt, both of Mount Pleasant, 10 grandchildren Darrell, C.J. and Matthews Jenkins, Amanda and Alecia Mullis, Jakob and Hanna Blackwelder, Kristi Soto, Kevin Bost, and Jeffery Martin; two great grandchildren, Santos Soto and Christopher Martin; and also a number of nieces and nephews. Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant is serving Mr. Linker's family.
